Convergent thinking is a term coined by J.P. Guilford (in the 1950s) as the opposite of divergent thinking. It is focused thinking thst seeks the single correct answer to a question or problem. Convergent thinking is used by participants in spelling competitions to come up with the right answer. Convergent thinking is critical and is an important part of creative thinking.
