Prove to yourself that you are creative, and start to develop your creativity.

Photography is mainly about where you place the frame (and other criteria depending on the expertise of the photographer and the capability of the technology).

The viewfinder is moved around until the ‘right’ frame is achieved and then the shot is taken. These two steps:: experimenting to find the ‘right’ frame and then taking the shot are the two basic stages in the process of creativity. Some psychology researchers call this variation and selection. So taking a photograph is creative.

YES YOU DO!

An Exercise to Boost Your Creativity

Find a boring subject to photograph. I’ve chosen an empty yoghurt container. The label and lid have been removed to make it as bland as possible.

1

Take a picture of it.
Chances are you ended up with something like this.
While it is a picture of the yoghurt container it could be more creative

2

So let’s take another picture of it.
This time let’s think about angle and background. And look it’s a bit more creative.

3

So let’s take yet another picture of it.
This time lets explore the subject. Is there a quirky side to it?.
And look it’s creative too.

4

So let’s take yet another picture of it.
This time lets think about what we can do to the subject.
And look it’s creative too.
Keep playing and you’ll find more creative ideas.
